On Earth Day 2024, Stainless Structurals announced the details on its solar energy project with Freedom Solar Power. With a commitment to the environment and sustainability, this one of our many green initiatives. This project was the largest commercial solar installation in the Houston, Texas area consisting of 4,000 solar panels across 118,000 square feet of roof space.
There were many benefits for the company to install the solar panels to off set our overall energy usage. Tax incentives and life-cycle energy savings will offset much of the initial costs. After almost one year of flipping the switch to solar we have recognized numerous advantages.
- The solar energy replaces the equivalent of 3,900 barrels of oil per year with electricity from clean renewable sources.
- Solar will offset our energy usage by 78%, saving millions of dollars over the next several years.
- A 100% carbon free energy source, resulting in a near-zero carbon footprint product.
- The roof panels provide a thermal barrier, reducing temperatures in our production facility by 35%.
- Avoids over 93 million pounds of carbon dioxide over a 25 year span. This has a similar impact to 10,000 vehicles being taken off the road, 271 acres of forest being preserved, and 14,648 tons of waste being recycled instead of hitting ladfills.
