The past year has been a very exciting one for Stainless Structurals America. After expanding our product lines and footprint in 2020, we continued our growth with several new initiatives implemented by both our production and commercial teams to help better serve our customers.
New Product line: Stainless Extrusions
The major highlight of 2021 was the acquisition of Hoesch Extruded Profiles by our sister company Montanstahl. With this acquisition, we can now offer hot extruded profiles into the U.S. market. Extruded profiles are the preferred solution for complex shapes and designs. Used in major industries such as aerospace, automotive, material handling and more, these extrusions are available in the majority of stainless and carbon steel alloys.
Business Development Additions
While almost all trade shows and customer visits were put on hold in 2020, this past year saw the return of a few events and sales calls. In 2021, we exhibited at four trade shows and this upcoming year we have a full schedule of 15 events. We were also able to send our business development team out to visit customers and present our accredited lunch and learn courses. While travel was limited due to Covid-19 restrictions, we anticipate a full travel schedule for 2022.
We were also excited to be highlighted in two publications for our production technology and major projects. In July, we were recognized by the Conroe Economic Development Council for our cutting edge technologies and recent plant expansion.
In the March edition of Moly Review, presented by IMOA, our project for the Scripps Memorial Pier in San Diego was featured. This project consisted of custom type 316/L Stainless Steel Channels, produced by our laser welding technology.
Production Resources
At Stainless Structurals we are always trying to push the boundaries of our product offerings. After adding sharp cornered tubing and carbon steel profiles to our repertoire, this year we focused on equipment to offer our customers value added services. In October, we added a milling machine to our production line. This machine allows for milling, beveling, machining and more to allow for more customization to profiles such as non-90 degree angles or grooves. We also purchased our first hand-held laser welder that will allow us to offer thinner and smaller profiles to our portfolio.
To go along with our ISO certification and welding qualifications, In June of 2021, we officially became CWB certified. This certifies our laser welding technology to Canadian standards to allow for more projects requiring this certification.
