Stainless Steel is increasing in popularity as the material of choice for many projects involving the architecture, engineering and construction industries. Industrial applications with critical requirements of structural integrity and corrosion resistance are perfect for many stainless steel alloys. Stainless Structurals America has recognized the need for structural shapes and is now offering custom stainless steel flat bars in a variety of stainless grades.
The Characteristics of Available Alloys
The two most commonly used austenitic grades of stainless steel are 304/L and 316/L. Both of these grades are versatile and exhibit excellent corrosion resistance, formability and weldability. While these are the most common in the market, there are several other grades of stainless steel in which we can offer our flat bar. Here are some specific alloy possibilities along with potential applications.
2205 & 2507 Duplex: | High yield strength and excellent resistance to corrosion and pitting. Used in food & chemical processing, structural & marine applications, oil & gas, and high chloride environments. |
309: | High chromium and low nickel content. Used in elevated temperature applications because of its heat resistance and resistance to oxidation. |
310S: | Increased nickel, chromium and molybdenum to provide better corrosion resistance and a higher resistance to the chemical effects from acids. |
317/L: | High chromium and low nickel content. Used in elevated temperature applications because of its heat resistance and resistance to oxidation. |
330: | Developed to provide excellent resistance to oxidation and carburizing at high temperatures. Used in chemical processing, power generation and thermal processing. |
904/L: | High nickel and chromium content. This alloy has strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting and corrosion resistance. Used in chemical processing and mining. |
These are just a few of the available grades we are offering in our flat bars. We can also produce in 2101 and 2304 duplex as well as many of the nickel alloys. Stainless Structurals can meet your Flat Bar Requirements
We are excited to now offer true flat bar in a variety of stainless steel alloys. Both standard and custom sizes are available in any of these alloy options. As with most projects, lead-time is critical. To assist our customers we are offering standard 1-2 week lead times on flat bars.
Our flat bars are available in the majority of standard plate thicknesses including 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16, 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4″, 1″ and more. We can also offer specialty thicknesses from our raw material used on many of the structural items such as 0.220″, 0.280″, 0.350″, 0.410″ and 0.450″. We can produce these bars up to 24 inches wide. Standard lengths for these flat bars will be 19-20 foot random and custom lengths are available. All four sides will consist of our blasted and pickled finish, the same standard used on our laser welded structural shapes. Other production standards include ASTM A276 for mechanical and chemical properties and ASTM A484 for dimensional tolerances.
More than a Structural Profiles Company
There are numerous applications for both stainless steel structural shapes and flat bars. Alloy selection can vary depending on the environment and material properties required per job.
