Stainless Structurals is excited to announce we can now supply hot extruded profiles in many different stainless and carbon steel alloys to our markets of North and South America.
On July 1, 2021, it was officially announced that our parent company, Montanstahl, had acquired the German company Hoesch Schwerter Extruded Profiles GmBH. The acquisition brings a new production method to the vast array of profile technologies offered through the Montanstahl family of companies. The enterprise will be called Montanstahl GmBH and will maintain production at the Schwerte facility in Germany.
Hot Extrusion Technology
As you can envision from the name, hot extrusion is carried out at very high temperatures. Solid steel round billets are heated to temperatures over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit and then pushed through a forming die to produce the required shape. This is unique in that it is a direct process that yields the desired shape in a single pass through the die. Below are the production parameters and characteristics of hot extrusions.
Profile Parameters:
Material Thickness: min. 0.156”
Size range: fit within a diameter of 10”
Inside diameter of hollow profile: from 0.78” to 6.5”
Weight: from 1.5 to 74 LBS/FT
General Tolerance: +/- .019”
Profile Characteristics:
Solid and Hollow Sections
High Design Flexibility
Minimal Production Requirements
Low Tooling Costs
Medium to Large Size Profiles for extrusions
Stainless, Carbon, & Titanium Steel Alloys
Profile Applications
Extruded profiles are generally the preferred solution for complex shapes and profile designs. There are several factors to consider when deciding which type of metal is best for a specific application. With extrusions, you generally can choose between aluminum, carbon steel or stainless steel. Steel extrusions are the proper choice for when the application requires superior strength or heat resistance. Stainless steel extrusions will provide even better heat resistance than carbon steel and are definitely preferred when corrosion is a concern.
Stainless and Carbon hot extruded steel profiles are used in a variety of industries. Some of the more popular segments include aerospace, transportation, energy, construction, architecture, agriculture, material handling, original equipment manufacturing and more. Hot extrusions provide design flexibility without sacrificing structural properties and are an economical solution due to low production costs and minimal order requirements.
Solutions in Steel
We take pride in being your primary source for standard and custom profiles in carbon and stainless steel. The addition of hot extruding to our portfolio just gives us one more way to meet our customer’s needs. The domestic production technology of laser welding, along with our overseas production in hot rolled, cold rolled, cold drawn and now extruded profiles gives us the ability to offer a solution in steel for almost any application.
