Why Duplex Stainless Steel?
Duplex stainless steel is becoming more prevalent in building construction and marine construction projects. With raw material availability increasing, Stainless Structurals is now able to provide standard and custom channels, steel beams, angle, tees, and square or rectangle tubing in the common duplex steel alloys like 2205 and 2507. Engineers and architects are making the switch from 316/L to Duplex stainless stell for its higher corrosion resistance and higher mechanical properties like yield and tensile strengths. This trend started in the oil and gas industry, mainly on offshore oil rigs, and is now trending in other industries and for other applications.
Project “Pool House” in Details
When you think of Connecticut, you think of harsh winters and short summers with not a lot of time for swimming outdoors. One homeowner wanted to solve this problem and build a pool house with part of the pool covered. He contracted Steeltech Building Products, Inc for the job. Duplex stainless steel was the product of choice by the engineers and architects for the strength, durability, and corrosion resistance to withstand the snowy winters, and other elements, Stainless Structurals worked closely with the contractor to provide them the material they needed, on time, to complete this one of a kind pool house.
A lot of Duplex Steel
In total, the project consisted of over 23,000 pounds of 2205 duplex steel material in 12 different items. This included steel beams in 10 inch, 12 inch and even 24 inch, channels in 5 inch and 6 inch, and angles in 3 inch and 8 inch. We also produced custom, stainless steel square and rectangle tubing from 12 inch up to 20 inches tall. We also provided custom lengths for these shapes ranging from 19 feet to 40 feet based on what was needed for the specific section. From the pictures you can tell the work that was involved, the customization required, and the beauty of this stainless steel pool house.
