Stainless Structurals is always looking to add to our production technologies so that we can expand our product portfolio and technical capabilities. We recently purchased and are installing a new low-impact laser welder that will help accomplish this goal by increasing our size range and creating the ability for more complex geometries of our stainless and carbon steel profiles.
Our New Laser Welder
Investing in new production technologies is one of the main pillars of Stainless Structurals. We understand that to meet our goal of becoming a metals campus and one-stop steel profile supplier, we must continue to invest in people and equipment.
Our latest investment for our facility in Conroe, Texas is a new 8 kilowatt, low-impact laser welder. The low-impact component allows us the ability to weld pre-polished and smaller geometries together without damaging the visible surface. This can be critical in both architectural and industrial applications. With this machine, we are able to reduce the weld penetration with low heat and a splatter-free laser beam.
Benefits and Technical Capabilities
There are several benefits to this new laser welder that also increases our technical capabilities. With this new equipment we are now able to weld lighter gauges, down to 1/8” thick. This brings our current production range to thicknesses from 1/8” up to 1-1/2” thick material in numerous stainless and carbon steel alloys.
It also gives us the ability to produce smaller profiles all the way down to those that fit into a 1/2” diameter circle. Our new profile parameters are expansive, with us being able to produce profile from 1/2” x1/2” up to 36” x 20”. This is one of the largest profile ranges in the industry and sets Stainless Structurals apart from other suppliers.
Other benefits of this new welder include the ability to produce more complex geometries and the ability to weld pre-polished material. Both of these bring new applications for our products. Polished, stainless steel profiles can be used in architectural applications such as decorative and ornamental designs. Thinner, smaller geometries in either carbon or stainless steels are good for profiles used in window and door applications as well as handrail and glass designs.
